Since 2008, the Bishop Tribe’s Air Program has been collaborating with the Las Vegas Office of National Weather Service (NWS) to promote Storm Spotters training in the Bishop Area. This is an official training conducted by NWS. The goal of the training is to improve forecasting by having a cadre of trained observers who can report unusual weather events in a timely manner. The Air Program helps with publicity, provides a congenial venue in one of the Tribal facilities, and supplies refreshments and T-shirts for participants. The nearby Lone Pine Tribe’s Air Program has provided additional support.

As of 2018, there have been 8 such trainings. Over 200 people have participated so far, and somewhere between 30-50 spotters have been trained.
